Cannes Film Festival 2025: "French cinema is in a good position," according to Rachida Dati

The Minister of Culture was a guest on France 2's "8pm" program on Friday. Broadcast live from Cannes, she congratulated French cinema.
Thirty-nine French films are among the hundred feature films in competition at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. An indicator of the good health of cinema in France according to Rachida Dati. "French cinema is in a good position at Cannes, the largest movie theater in the world. This is a good indicator. Just as 2024 was an exceptional year for French cinema. 181 million spectators at the cinema last year, and in 45% of cases, it was for French films," assures the Minister of Culture in the "8 p.m." news program on France 2.
Donald Trump has threatened to impose a 100% tax on foreign films , including French ones. Rachida Dati says there's nothing to worry about for now. " These announcements, which aren't very specific, would primarily penalize American cinema, since 70% of their box office revenue is exported ," the minister reassures.
